My achievements as Head, Department of Earth Sciences, Ogun State University
(now Olabisi Onabanjo University) Ago-Iwoye (October 1997 and December 2000).
Teaching and learning took place normally while lecturers were employed to take care of
all options in Earth Sciences like Applied Geophysics and Applied Geochemistry.
Both teaching and non-teaching members of the Department were promoted as at when
due.
The laboratories were equipped with state-of-the Art items of equipment.
When I transferred my service to the University of Ibadan, I left the Department much
better than I met it. The late Prof. O.O. Kehinde-Phillips, the longest serving Head of
Department, opined during my sentforth that “to the best of my knowledge, Dr. Adeyemi
has been the best Head of this Department”. I was highly humble by this objective
assessment of my stewardship.
Acting Head of Geology, University of Ibadan (August 2004 to July 2006).
I made teaching and learning very interesting.
I improved upon the physical facilities of the Department such as laboratory equipment
and furniture in staff offices.
I used internally generated revenue to provide drains in the Department. This put a
permanent stop to flooding of the Department.
I modified the postgraduate curriculum to make graduates more relevant in the practice of
geosciences.
Director of General Studies (October 2012 to September 2015).
I modified the curriculum of the General Studies Programme by introducing more
relevant courses.
The unit acquired about 2 acres of land at Ajibode for the Development of its permanent
site. I initiated the process for the change of its name from “General Studies Programme
Unit” to “Centre for General Studies”. The approval was made few months after my
tenure.
